The "Lusciàt"

A guided journey into living local identity and craft

This easy guided trekking invites you to discover the identity of the Alto Vergante area, following the historic paths once walked by the Lusciàt, the local umbrella-makers who shaped both the landscape and the social history of this area.

More than a simple walk, this experience is designed to help you understand who these people were, how they lived, and why their story still matters today. We begin in the small village of Brovello. From here, we follow ancient woodland paths used for generations by the Lusciàt as they travelled between villages before leaving the valley to seek their fortune across Europe and beyond. Walking through forests and open viewpoints, we bring these stories to life, connecting the landscape to the people who once depended on it. The trail leads us to Gignese, long considered the cultural heart of the umbrella-making tradition. Here we visit the Umbrella Museum, where tools, objects and personal stories help complete the picture of a craft that became a symbol of local identity and resilience. After the museum visit, we continue our loop walk back toward Brovello, following a panoramic route with beautiful views over Lake Maggiore, offering time to reflect on the journey and the stories encountered along the way.

This guided experience lasts approximately four hours and requires a minimum of four participants. The tour is rated as easy to moderate, suitable for travelers in normal physical condition who enjoy walking at a relaxed pace.
