The Blue Path of Mergozzo

A guided trekking through landscape and stonecraft

This easy guided trekking is designed for travelers who wish to explore nature with context and meaning, combining a gentle walk with a deeper understanding of the landscape and its history.

We begin in Mergozzo, a charming lakeside village known for its ancient stone houses and intimate atmosphere. After a short introduction to its historic center, we enjoy a small tasting of a local specialty, the traditional Fugaschina, before setting off along the Blue Path.

As we follow the path, running between the lake and the mountain, we explore a landscape shaped by both nature and human activity. For centuries, this area was a major site for the extraction of green granite, a stone later used in iconic landmarks such as Milan’s Duomo. Walking through forests and historic paths, we bring this working landscape to life. The trail leads us to Montorfano, a remarkably preserved village where time seems to slow down. Here we visit one of the most important Romanesque churches of the Val d’Ossola, set among medieval stone houses and open panoramic views over the surrounding lakes. A relaxed break on a scenic terrace allows time to enjoy the landscape and reflect on the journey. We then return to Mergozzo along the same path, now offering wide views over the peaks of the Val d’Ossola, closing the loop with a different perspective on the same landscape.

The tour concludes in Mergozzo, after approximately four hours of exploration at an unhurried pace. This experience requires a minimum of four participants. For families travelling with children under six, please contact us for further details and tailored arrangements.
