The Blue Path

This is a light hike, fit for any level of fitness. We will start our tour in Mergozzo, a lovely town on the Lake Mergozzo’s shores. Here, after having explored the thousands-year-old historic center, we will have a taste of one of the territory’s most famous treats, the “Fugascina” (A traditional Italian pastry), and then it will be time to start our hike.

The simple path will give you the chance to learn about the history of the glorious stones that you will be walking on. The Blue Path runs halfway between the Lake and the Montorfano peak, which was used for centuries as an extraction site. Its green granite was used for well-known Italian buildings as Milano’s Duomo (Cathedral) or the Papal Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls of Rome.

The path will lead us to another precious gem of the area, the tiny village of Montorfano, a true hidden gem that shows a stunning 1500-hundred-years old church, picturesque stone houses from the Middle Ages and wonderful panoramas over the Lakes. This is a place where time has literally stopped. In Montorfano there will be time for a relaxing break at the breathtaking panoramic terrace before we start walking back to Mergozzo. The path will be the same but it will now offer an amazing view over the high peaks of the local Val d´Ossola.
