Mount San Salvatore super easy walk

A VERY EASY WALK THROUGH THE SAN SALVATORE FORESTS WITH A LOCAL "MERENDA"

If you like the idea of spending a few hours in nature while enjoying the quiet of the forest and some spectacular views but you are not an expert hiker, this is the tour for you. We will meet up at the top of Mount San Salvatore, a stunning panoramic mount over the village of Massino Visconti at around 800 above sea level. From here we will start our walk on an easy path in the forest that leads to one of Lake Maggiore’s most famous and spectacular panoramic views.

After this we will continue our walk through the lush and peaceful forests that covers the mount, to finally reach back to the starting point. Here the tour continues with a visit to the gorgeous ancient San Salvatore abbey, founded by the Benedictines in year 1000. The site shows frescoes from the 14th century, a mystical atmosphere, a “holy stair” and a breathtaking, unique view over Lake Maggiore. However, the experience is not over yet...

Inside the ancient abbey a more modern side can be found, in another section of the building you’ll discover an ancient facility that has become one of the most iconic “food temples” of the district, the Trattoria San Salvatore. Here, on its very famous terrace overlooking Lake Maggiore, so

perfectly set that, on clear days, one can see Milan’s famous “Madonnina” the golden Holy Mary statue on top of the Duomo (Cathedral).

On this tour we will also experience the most authentic food tradition of this part of Italy: a “Merenda” (an afternoon snack) with local cheeses, cured meat cuts, pickles and wine. What a perfect way to end a lovely afternoon!
